Building a SpriteKit Game With Swift Playgrounds | iPad GameDev A Reality?

The early stages of game development can be a lot of fun, but they can also be really frustrating. I've been iterating on my idea of a quick and simple game to use as a proof of concept for using Swift Playgrounds as a game development tool and I finally think I've got something I can run with.

The game is tentatively called "ShapeGame" (I know super original) and is basically a game where the player will have to solve puzzles using math, shape recognition and color matching. Obviously we're a long way away from a finished product here, but I have been able to get the core functionality working - albeit the game is basically unbeatable right now.

In the next video I hope to refine the game loop a bit so that we can see how this will look as I polish and fix things.

This experience is a lot of fun and Im really enjoying Swift Playgrounds as a whole, but the more I use it the more I question the validity of using it as a platform to write full apps and release them to the App Store. YES YOU CAN do this, but why would you? I guess the most appropriate answer to that question is that you don't have the budget and you already have an iPad... but still an older MacBook might still serve you better. It wouldn't be as fun as Swift Playgrounds though and that's definitely the draw for me.
