The compareTo( ) method is used for comparing two strings lexicographically. If both the strings are equal then it returns 0 else it returns positive or negative value. The result is positive if the first string is lexicographically greater than the second string else the result would be negative.

In this video we understand this string function in more detail and then we learn how to use it in Java programs along with dry run for better understanding.
